Help RotaryHPH reach the goal of $1,000 to help kids in Hawaii’s foster care system

Submitted by Ali Josselet, Youth Service Chair, Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor

Aloha,

My name is Ali and you may not quite know me yet. I was inducted to the Rotary Club of Hickam Pearl Harbor in January 2023 and have since been elected to serve as the Chair of Community Service and as a board member for the 2024-2026 Rotary year. As a committed Rotarian, I love seeing the impact we have on our community. This email is to share with you my annual initiative within the club. This is a project that is close to my heart and I am honored to partner with each of you.

Often when children enter the foster care system, they don’t have a bag of their own and are given a trash bag for their belongings (if they have any).

To help, we are partnering with Queen of Bags to give foster children in Hawaii their very own bag and belongings, so they can feel loved, special and wanted

Donate today!

Our goal is to raise $1,000. And then we are inviting folks to join us on 17 July 2024 at our assembling event at the AMR Community Center to help assemble the bags. We’ll also have an additional special guest that evening — Allison Wilkinson, the founder of the Queen of Bags Initiative, who will be joining us all the way from Georgia.

If you’d like to join us for this event, please RSVP here.

We are also seeking the following items to go in the bags:

  • Backpacks
  • Crayons (prefer 24 count)
  • Learning Cards & Workbooks
  • Play-doh
  • Puzzles and Card Games
  • Reusable Water Bottles
  • Socks
  • Small Barbies
  • Small Toys (ie yo-yo, jump rope, frisbee, hot wheels)
  • Teddy Bears or other Stuffed Toys
  • Travel Set Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Unused Makeup Bags

If you donate any of the above items, please ensure they are brand new, unopened and unused. We cannot accept second-hand items.

All items need to be received or collected by 30 June. For more information, please feel free to contact me.

Yours truly,

Ali Josselet
