πŸ§“πŸŒž RECO September Newsletter

ALOHA ROTARACTORS,

September is here, and there are some cool non-rotary things happening like National Grandparents Day and the Autumnal Equinox.  National Grandparents Day is on Sunday, so spend some time with your grandparents or your elders.  The Autumnal Equinox is on September 22nd, and it’s a day when the sun is directly above the equator so day and night have the same length of time (locations will vary).

For September, we have a special event, Out of Darkness: Suicide Prevention Walk, to spread awareness about suicide, and to bring the community together.  We will also have the opportunity to give back to the ‘āina during our Waimea Valley Workday.  For more details, check out the Upcoming Events section below in this email.

As of July 1, 2024, our membership fee is $30 and will include a RECO T-shirt.  Any returning member will have an annual membership fee of $15, while new members will have an annual membership fee of $30. Note that all membership fees will last you one full year from the day you pay. This means that if you joined/paid on Sept. 1, we won’t ask for a payment from you again until the following Sept. 1. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know!  Please venmo your membership fee payment to Nicole Baltazar @nnickii5.

To see more events planned for months ahead, check out the newsletter attached to the email.  Keep in mind that events in the newsletter are subject to change as time nears.  We will send email updates with new information on events as soon as we get them. For any questions about our upcoming events, or other matters please send us an email.

MAHALO,

Your RECO Officers

Upcoming Events

Out of Darkness: Suicide Prevention Walk

Saturday, September 14th @ 8:00AM – 12:00PM|| Frank Fasi Civic Grounds, Honolulu

Come join us and many others in support of suicide prevention.  During this event, we hope to bring awareness to as many people as we can, so bring your family, friends, and pets.  We want to inform as many people as possible about the resources available to aid this vulnerable population.  And we are raising funds in support of suicide prevention.  If you plan on attending, please contact any of the RECO officers or email the club.

Waimea Valley Workday

Saturday, September 28th @ 9:00AM – 11:30AM|| Waimea Valley, Haleiwa

If you like the outdoors and giving back to the ‘Aina, we have an event for you.  For the past couple of years, down in the valley, RECO has been cultivating native plants and animals, and managing invasive weeds and bugs.  Come lend us a hand in preserving the land.  If you plan on attending, please contact any of the RECO officers or email the club.

Operation Christmas Child

September thru October

During the holiday season, many of us are blessed with toys and gifts, however, there are children who are not so fortunate.  Operation Christmas Child (OCC) makes it easy for the average person to help those kids out.  As a club, we purchase toys and basic necessities that fit in a shoebox, which is then distributed internationally via carrier pigeon (Samaritan’s Purse International).  If you would like to donate, write a check to “Rotaract E-Club Ohana,” or venmo our treasurer, Nicole Baltazar, @nnickii5

Check out the newsletter for more events planned for October and November!
